Christopher R. Cabanillas

Christopher R. Cabanillas is the founder and principal of Cabanillas & Associates, P.C. He is admitted to practice in New York and Connecticut. He is also admitted to practice before the Eastern District of New York and the Southern District of New York.

Prior to becoming an attorney, Cabanillas attended Columbia University Law School where he earned his Juris Doctorate in 2001 and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in History in 1997. While in law school, Cabanillas was an New York City Bar Association Diversity Program Fellow and worked as a summer associate at Thatcher Proffitt and Wood, LLP. There he worked in its Mortgage Securitization Department assisting in the packaging of mortgages into portfolios which were then converted into bonds.

Upon earning his his Juris Doctorate in 2001, Cabanillas was admitted to the New York Bar and obtained a position as an associate in the Corporate and Securities Department of the New York office of the law firm of Heller Ehrman White & McAuliffe, LLP. In 2003, Cabanillas relocated to the West Coast, took the California Bar and was associated with the law firm of Buchalter Nemer Fields & Younger, LLP. His work here focused on joint ventures and tax credit syndication matters in its Real Estate Finance Department. In 2004, he became an associate with the California law firm, of Cox Castle & Nicholson, LLP, where he focused his practice on Real Estate Development.

Thereafter, Cabanillas returned to New York where he established his own law firm in 2006. Cabanillas & Associates, P.C. has offices in White Plains, Queens, Brooklyn, Bronx, Long Island, Union City (NJ), North Brunswick (NJ), and Stamford (CT). Cabanillas currently concentrates his practice in real estate, foreclosure defense litigation and mortgage loan modifications.

When he is not practicing law or spending time with his family, Cabanillas is a dedicated supporter of El Centro Hispano, the White Plains-based nonprofit organization founded 40+ years ago to assist, support, and strengthen Hispanic families. Since 2015, Cabanillas has raised over $50,000.00 for the organization and has received recognition in the form of proclamations from the City of White Plains, the County of Westchester, and the state of New York. He also proudly serves on the Board of Directors for the not-for-profit, Legal Services of the Hudson Valley. Their mission is to provide free, high quality counsel in civil matters for individuals and families who cannot afford to pay an attorney where basic human needs are at stake.

Wendy Marie Weathers

Wendy Marie Weathers, Esq. is the Senior Managing Attorney in charge of the Litigation and  Consumer Bankruptcy Departments of Cabanillas & Associates, P.C. Ms. Weathers has represented both institutional lenders and borrowers in all aspects of the mortgage banking industry and residential foreclosures for over 20 years.  She is admitted to practice in New York since 1997, and is admitted to all four federal and bankruptcy districts in New York and federal district of Connecticut.

Ms. Weathers has been published in industry magazines and has held numerous CLE training seminars in foreclosure, bankruptcy, loss mitigation, and post foreclosure sale issues.  She earned her Bachelor of Arts from SUNY Stony Brook and her Juris Doctorate from City University of New York School of Law.

Ms. Weathers is deeply involved in several professional organizations and passionate about the mission of each. She serves as:

  • Vice President and Board Member as well as a co-chair of the Continuing Legal Education Committee and a co-chair of the Membership Committee of the Westchester County Bar Association (WCBA).

  • Delegate to the House of Delegates of the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA).

  • Co-chair of the Bankruptcy Committee and a co-chair of the Practice Management Committee of the Westchester Women’s Bar Association (WWBA) as well as a Board Member.  

  • Board Member of Westchester Residential Opportunities (WRO), a non-profit organization that promotes equal, affordable & accessible housing opportunities.  

  • Chair of the Bankruptcy Committee of the Fairfield County Bar Association (FCBA).

  • Active member of the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys (NACBA) and the Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York (WBASNY).

Atheeb U. Khateeb

Atheeb U. Khateeb, Esq. has been with Cabanillas & Associates, P.C. since 2009 and is the Managing Attorney of the New Jersey and Connecticut offices of Cabanillas & Associates, P.C. He is admitted to practice in New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut as well as the U.S. District Court of New Jersey. Mr. Khateeb represents clients in foreclosure defense, consumer credit litigation, residential and commercial real estate transactions, business transactions, and trusts and estates. He earned his Bachelor of Science from The College of New Jersey and his Juris Doctorate from St. John’s University School of Law.

Mr. Khateeb has been appointed to the New York State Grievance Committee for the Ninth Judicial District for the 2018-2020 term. He is also a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association, Hudson County Bar Association, Westchester County Bar Association, and the Fairfield County Bar Association.

When he is not practicing law or spending time with his family, Mr. Khateeb enjoys inspiring young minds to study law. He serves on the Mercy College Legal Studies Advisory Committee and has been a guest speaker at Mercy College on Law Day. He also volunteers as a judge at mock trial competitions and has judged at the Yale Invitational Mock Trials at the collegiate level as well as the Westchester County Mock Trials at the high school level. Mr. Khateeb has also served as advisor to fourth graders entering the New Jersey State Bar Foundation Law Fair mock trial competition.

Quenten Elizabeth Gilliam

Quenten Elizabeth Gilliam, Esq. is a Senior Associate Litigation Attorney at Cabanillas & Associates, P.C. where she represents borrowers in mediation and drafts motions on behalf of homeowners in foreclosure. Ms. Gilliam is admitted to practice in New York State and New Jersey. At the federal level, she is admitted to practice in the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York as well as the District of New Jersey.

Ms. Gilliam earned her Bachelor of Arts in History from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec and received her Juris Doctorate, cum laude, from Chicago-Kent College of Law in 2012. Ms. Gilliam is a member of the American Bar Association and the New York State Bar Association.

Ms. Gilliam has represented borrowers in all aspects of residential foreclosure. She routinely participates in motion practice in New York and New Jersey as well as appellate practice in New York. Ms. Gilliam also handles referee’s hearings and foreclosure trials. Ms. Gilliam has successfully argued to stay evictions and foreclosure sales in numerous counties across New York and New Jersey.

In addition to foreclosure, Ms. Gilliam also handles real property and contract related actions for Plaintiffs and Defendants such as quiet title actions, partitions and breaches of contract. Ms. Gilliam handles all aspects of this litigation from pleadings, discovery and motions to hearings and settlement negotiations. Ms. Gilliam is passionate about helping homeowners stay in their homes and takes great care to make sure that the clients of Cabanillas & Associates, P.C. are satisfied.

Seth Levy

Seth Levy, Esq. is an Associate Attorney working in the Immigration Department of Cabanillas & Associates, P.C. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Delaware in 2011 and his Juris Doctor from Pace University School of Law in 2014. He is admitted to practice in New Jersey and New York State. 

Seth specializes in immigration matters. He has successfully represented clients in a wide variety of immigrant and nonimmigrant visa petitions, including family based petitions, adjustment of status, consular processing, deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA), and naturalization applications. He has experience handling asylum and removal defense cases in Immigration Court.    

Prior to joining Cabanillas & Associates, P.C., Seth was a Legal Fellow at the Pace Community Law Practice in White Plains, New York. During law school, he was a Law Intern at the Department of Justice, Executive Office of Immigration Review, Immigration Court in New York City, New York.

Paola D. Vera

Paola D. Vera earned her B.A. in Sociology from Binghamton University in 2001 and immediately began working as a paralegal in the personal injury/medical malpractice field. Inspired by her clients and her work, Ms. Vera continued her education and attended the Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center at Touro College part-time in the evenings while she continued to work full-time as a medical malpractice paralegal. Since earning her Juris Doctorate in 2012, Ms. Vera has been admitted to the New Jersey State Bar and the New York State Bar as well as the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York. 

Ms. Vera focuses her practice primarily on representing homeowners in foreclosure defense cases.

Nelson De La Cruz

Nelson De La Cruz, Esq. is an Associate Attorney in the firm’s Civil Litigation Department.

Mr. De La Cruz earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Syracuse University in 1992 and his Juris Doctor from the Pace University School of Law in 1998. He is admitted to the practice of law in the State of New York and the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.

With the support of a dedicated team of client liaisons, account managers, legal assistant, paralegals and other administrative personnel, Nelson leads the firm’s efforts to deliver collaborative, cost-effective, client-tailored, holistic solutions to its clients in criminal, family law, matrimonial, landlord-tenant and other related civil matters.

Prior to joining Cabanillas & Associates, P.C., Mr. De La Cruz worked as a solo practitioner representing individuals and entities in contract, commercial, criminal law, family law, landlord-tenant, matrimonial, real estate and securities and subrogation litigation matters. Nelson has extensive experience managing the identification, preservation, collection, review, analysis, production of electronic discovery materials in transactional and litigation matters involving different industries and substantive areas of the law.

In addition to his extensive legal experience, Mr. De La Cruz has also worked for several prominent organizations, managing anti-money laundering, employee benefits outsourcing, and global financial crimes compliance initiatives.

Christal S. Prinz

Christal S. Prinz, is an Associate Litigation Attorney at Cabanillas & Associates, P.C. where she represents homeowners in all aspects of foreclosure proceedings.

Ms. Prinz was admitted to the New York State bar in 2002 after graduating from Albany Law School at Union University in 2001. She has extensive litigation experience in the areas of family law, education law, criminal law, debt collection and foreclosures.

In her free time, Ms. Prinz enjoys traveling, reading, hiking and camping.

Lauren M. Osa

Lauren Osa, Esq. is an Associate Attorney working in the Consumer Bankruptcy Department of Cabanillas & Associates, P.C. Lauren has a wealth of experience in the field of consumer bankruptcy, where she has successfully represented thousands of clients in both Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 proceedings.

Ms. Osa earned her B.A. degree from Binghamton University in 2004 and her Juris Doctorate from the University of Florida in 2007. She is admitted to practice in both New York and Florida. She is admitted to the federal courts in the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York, as well as the Middle District of Florida.

Lauren Osa, Esq. is an Associate Attorney working in the Consumer Bankruptcy Department of Cabanillas & Associates, P.C. Lauren has a wealth of experience in the field of consumer bankruptcy, where she has successfully represented thousands of clients in both Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 proceedings.

Prior to joining Cabanillas & Associates, P.C., Lauren was a Senior Associate at the largest consumer bankruptcy firm in the Middle District of Florida, Clark & Washington, P.C. Her memberships include the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys, the Westchester County Bar Association and the Suffolk County Bar Association.
