White Plains, NY -- On June 15th, Cabanillas & Associates, P.C. legal firm and El Centro Hispano had the honor of celebrating the achievements of 32 students and graduates from the White Plains area.
During the ceremony hosted atop Cabanillas & Associates rooftop terrace, the students and graduates celebrated their academic achievements and community work. Each student received a certificate commemorating their hard work and all enjoyed a delicious meal as well as entertainment provided by Nicholson Events.
In addition to the outstanding students and their families, attendees included El Centro Hispano Board members, staff, volunteers, and supporters, White Plains School District Director of the World Language and ELL Programs Lisa Panaro, and a special appearance made by La Mega 97.9’s DJ Tony Sanchez a.k.a. “El Tiburon”.
“While I have been a practicing attorney for many years now, I still remember the excitement of graduating high school and preparing to venture out on my own to college,” says Chris Cabanillas, founder of Cabanillas & Associates. “The support of my community was imperative to my success then just as it is now and I want each of these hardworking students to understand that the Cabanillas & Associates team believes in them and we will be rooting for their success!”
The 17 El Centro Hispano high school scholarship recipients for 2017 are: Abril M. Lopez Melendez, Carolina Cardozo Jacquet, Katherine Martinez- Valdez, Melissa Melendez Sanchez, Brigitte Avila, Laura Maldonado Segura, Daniela Duran, Jadelynn Diaz, Stephanie Cortes-Guijosa, Juan Siguencia, Steven Serna, Gisselle Robles, Miguel Gomez, Cindy Tapay, Johanna Torres, Nicole Maria, and Edwin Hidalgo.
The 15 El Centro Hispano college mentor scholarship recipients for 2017 are: Valerie Olarte- Catano, Karla Nadine Schiefer, Carla Rodriguez, Jennifer Abreu, Linda Schwartz, Deily Barrios, Ivan Xelo, Yarisa Barcacel, Alan Mazurek, Briyit Orellana, Diana Olivos, Fernanda Moscoso, John Farfan. Denise Flores-Peña, and Luana Nahue.
Since 1980, El Centro Hispano Scholarship has been awarded to promising students. This is the third year that Cabanillas & Associates, P.C. has hosted the event. The El Centro Hispano Scholarship program sets out to encourage leadership among young Latino leaders. It provides them with the support, resources, and guidance to help them along the way to a fulfilling career. A number of students receive a financial scholarship for future studies.
