Christopher R. Cabanillas

Christopher R. Cabanillas is the founder and principal of Cabanillas & Associates, P.C. He is admitted to practice in New York, Connecticut, and California. He is also admitted to practice before the United States District Court, the Eastern District of New York and the Southern District of New York.

Prior to becoming an attorney, Mr. Cabanillas attended Columbia University Law School where he earned his Juris Doctorate in 2001 and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in History in 1997. While in law school, Mr. Cabanillas was an New York City Bar Association Diversity Program Fellow and worked as a summer associate at Thatcher Proffitt and Wood, LLP. There he worked in its Mortgage Securitization Department assisting in the packaging of mortgages into portfolios which were then converted into bonds. 

Upon earning his his Juris Doctorate in 2001, Mr. Cabanillas was admitted to the New York Bar and obtained a position as an associate in the Corporate and Securities Department of the New York office of the law firm of Heller Ehrman White & McAuliffe, LLP. In 2003, Mr. Cabanillas relocated to the West Coast, took the California Bar and was associated with the law firm of Buchalter Nemer Fields & Younger, LLP. His work here focused on joint ventures and tax credit syndication matters in its Real Estate Finance Department. In 2004, he became an associate with the California law firm, of Cox Castle & Nicholson, LLP, where he focused his practice on Real Estate Development.

Thereafter, Mr. Cabanillas returned to New York where he established his own law firm in 2006. Cabanillas & Associates, P.C. has offices in White Plains, Queens, Brooklyn, Bronx, Long Island, Union City (NJ), North Brunswick (NJ), and Bridgeport (CT). Mr. Cabanillas currently concentrates his practice in real estate, foreclosure defense litigation and mortgage loan modifications.

Wendy Marie Weathers

Wendy Marie Weathers, Esq. is the Senior Managing Attorney in charge of the Litigation, Consumer Bankruptcy and Short Sale Departments of Cabanillas & Associates, P.C. Ms. Weathers has represented both institutional lenders and borrowers in all aspects of the mortgage banking industry and residential foreclosures for more than 17 years. She is admitted to practice in New York since 1997, and is admitted to all four federal and bankruptcy districts in New York and federal district of Connecticut.

Ms. Weathers has been published in industry magazines and has held numerous CLE (Continuing Legal Education) training seminars in foreclosure, bankruptcy, loss mitigation, and post foreclosure sale issues. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from SUNY Stony Brook and her Juris Doctorate from City University of New York School of Law.

Ms. Weathers is deeply involved in several professional organizations. She serves as Treasurer and as a Board Member of the Westchester County Bar Association (WCBA), a co-chair of the Continuing Legal Education Committee and a co-chair of the Membership Committee. Ms. Weathers is also a Delegate of the House of Delegates of the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA). Ms. Weathers is a co-chair of the Bankruptcy Committee and a co-chair of the Practice Management Committee of the Westchester Women’s Bar Association (WWBA) as well as a Board Member. She is also a co-chair of the Bankruptcy Committee of the Fairfield County Bar Association (FCBA). She is also an active member of the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys (NACBA), the Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York (WBASNY) and Queens County Bar Association (QCBA)

Atheeb U. Khateeb

Atheeb U. Khateeb, Esq. is the Managing Attorney of the New Jersey and Connecticut offices of Cabanillas & Associates, P.C.. He represents clients in foreclosure defense, consumer credit litigation, residential and commercial real estate transactions, business transactions, and trusts and estates. He is admitted to practice in New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut. He earned his Bachelor of Science from The College of New Jersey and his Juris Doctorate from St. John’s University School of Law.

Mr. Khateeb is a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association, Bergen County Bar Association, Hudson County Bar Association, Westchester County Bar Association, and the Fairfield County Bar Association. Mr. Khateeb also volunteers as a judge at mock trial competitions. He has judged at the Yale Invitational Mock Trials at collegiate level as well as the Westchester County Mock Trials at high school level.

Luz Lizarazo

Luz A. Lizarazo, Esq. is an Associate at Cabanillas & Associates, P.C. in the White Plains, New York office. Ms. Lizarazo advises clients on real estate, short sales and immigration matters. She also handles the Consumer Credit Department. Ms. Lizarazo earned her her Juris Doctor from the Universidad Pedagogica & Tecnologica de Colombia in 2001 and her LLM in Comparative Legal Studies from Pace University in 2007. She is admitted to practice in New York. Ms. Lizarazo is an active member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) and the Westchester Bar Association.

Ms. Lizarazo has also practiced law in her home country of Colombia, where she was the first law student to work for the White Collar Crime Unit for the District Attorney’s Office. She served as a law clerk for the Appellate Division of Civil/Tort matters in Colombia. She has negotiated numerous settlements in resolution of pending litigation. Prior to joining Cabanillas & Associates, P.C. she worked at a law firm in White Plains, New York where she concentrated on immigration matters. Ms. Lizarazo has successfully closed a large amount of short sale and real estate transactions in New York, allowing many clients facing foreclosure to remain in their homes.

Jenèe K. Ciccarelli

Jenèe K. Ciccarelli, Esq. is an Associate Attorney handling foreclosure litigation and  consumer bankruptcy with a focus on Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy, as well as  real estate closings including short sales, property tax appeals and landlord-tenant matters. Ms. Ciccarelli has represented both institutional lenders and borrowers in residential foreclosures for almost five years. She is admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey, including New Jersey Federal Court.

She earned her B.A./B.S. degrees from Meredith College in North Carolina, her Master’s in Diplomacy and International Relations at Seton Hall University Whitehead School of International Relations and Diplomacy, and her Juris Doctorate at Seton Hall University School of Law.

Ms. Ciccarelli is involved in several professional organizations. Ms. Ciccarelli was a clerk for the Honorable Bradley J. Ferencz, Presiding Judge of the Criminal Division of the Superior Court of New Jersey, Middlesex County and remains an active member of the Middlesex County Bar Association. She is currently a pupil in the Bankruptcy Inn of Court of New Jersey and a member of the Young Lawyer’s Division Committee. She is the former secretary of the International Trade Committee of the New York City Bar, a position she held for three years.

Ms. Ciccarelli is a zealous advocate for her clients and has been successful challenging foreclosures and obtaining stays of sheriff sales. With her knowledge of bankruptcy and deep understanding of the foreclosure process, Ms. Ciccarelli crafts the most appropriate strategy given the unique circumstances of every client to save their home.

Patricia M. Lattanzio

 

Patricia M. Lattanzio, Esq. is a Senior Litigation Associate with Cabanillas & Associates, P.C., practicing in New York and Connecticut in the areas of real estate litigation, foreclosure defense, and loan modification. She has also practiced in the areas of landlord/tenant, civil litigation, debt litigation, bankruptcy, matrimonial (with a wealth of experience in the area of uncontested divorce), vehicle and traffic law, and wills/estates.

Ms. Lattanzio is a member of the New York State Bar Association, White Plains Bar Association, Westchester Women’s Bar Association, Westchester County Bar Association and the Fairfield County Bar Association.    

Ms. Lattanzio holds a bachelor’s degree in History and Philosophy and a Master’s degree in History, both from the University of Scranton. She is a graduate of Pace University School of Law, cum laude, where she was the Managing Editor of the Pace International Law Review.

Ms. Lattanzio is admitted to practice at the state and federal level in New York, as well as at the state level in Connecticut. Quenten Elizabeth Gilliam

 

Quenten Elizabeth Gilliam, Esq. is an Associate Litigation Attorney at Cabanillas & Associates, P.C., where she represents borrowers in foreclosure settlement conferences and drafts motions on behalf of homeowners in foreclosure. Ms. Gilliam is admitted to practice in New York State and is currently seeking admission to the New Jersey State Bar. At the federal level, she is admitted to practice in the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York.

Ms. Gilliam earned her Bachelor of Arts in History from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec and received her Juris Doctorate, cum laude, from Chicago-Kent College of Law in 2012. Ms. Gilliam is a member of the American Bar Association and the New York State Bar Association.

Ms. Gilliam possesses strong legal research and writing skills and has drafted numerous successful motions and persuasive appeals on behalf of borrowers seeking to avoid foreclosure. She has represented borrowers in all aspects of residential foreclosure. She has attended foreclosure settlement conferences in six New York State counties, and has argued to stay evictions and foreclosure proceedings in Housing Court, Supreme Court, the Appellate Division and U.S. Bankruptcy Court.

Phionah N. Brown

 

Phionah N. Brown, Esq. is an Associate Attorney in the Litigation department at Cabanillas & Associates, P.C., where she defends borrowers in residential foreclosure actions. Ms. Brown earned her Bachelor's in Business Administration from  Pace University and her Juris Doctorate from Western Michigan Thomas M. Cooley Law School. She is admitted to practice in the State of New York and is a member of the New York State Bar Association.  

Ms. Brown attends foreclosure settlement conferences and is skilled at drafting motions.

Seth Levy

Seth Levy, Esq. is an Associate Attorney working in the Immigration Department of Cabanillas & Associates, P.C. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Delaware in 2011 and his Juris Doctor from Pace University School of Law in 2014. He is admitted to practice in New Jersey and New York State. 

Seth specializes in immigration matters. He has successfully represented clients in a wide variety of immigrant and nonimmigrant visa petitions, including family based petitions, adjustment of status, consular processing, deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA), and naturalization applications. He has experience handling asylum and removal defense cases in Immigration Court.    

Prior to joining Cabanillas & Associates, P.C., Seth was a Legal Fellow at the Pace Community Law Practice in White Plains, New York. During law school, he was a Law Intern at the Department of Justice, Executive Office of Immigration Review, Immigration Court in New York City, New York.

Rolfi J. Adon

Rolfi J. Adon, Esq. is an Associate Attorney focusing on family and matrimonial law matters at Cabanillas & Associates, P.C. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from The State University of New York at Albany, where he was a distinguished member of Phi Alpha Delta Pre-Law Fraternity. He went on to receive his law degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School, where he participated in various defense clinics.

Mr. Adon is experienced in all areas of family and matrimonial law including divorce (uncontested and contested), child custody, child support, spousal support, visitation rights, family offense petitions, separation agreements, prenuptial agreements, postnuptial agreements, and separation of assets. Mr. Adon has also handled landlord/tenant and bankruptcy cases.

Mr. Adon is admitted to practice before the Courts of the State of New York and New Jersey. He is a member of the New York State Bar Association and the New York County Bar Association.

Paola D. Vera

Paola D. Vera earned her B.A. in Sociology from Binghamton University in 2001 and immediately began working as a paralegal in the personal injury/medical malpractice field. Inspired by her clients and her work, Ms. Vera continued her education and attended the Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center at Touro College part-time in the evenings while she continued to work full-time as a medical malpractice paralegal. Since earning her Juris Doctorate in 2012, Ms. Vera has been admitted to the New Jersey State Bar and the New York State Bar as well as the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York. 

Ms. Vera focuses her practice primarily on representing homeowners in foreclosure defense cases.

Lauren M. Osa

Lauren Osa, Esq. is an Associate Attorney working in the Consumer Bankruptcy Department of Cabanillas & Associates, P.C. Lauren has a wealth of experience in the field of consumer bankruptcy, where she has successfully represented thousands of clients in both Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 proceedings.

Ms. Osa earned her B.A. degree from Binghamton University in 2004 and her Juris Doctorate from the University of Florida in 2007. She is admitted to practice in both New York and Florida. She is admitted to the federal courts in the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York, as well as the Middle District of Florida.

Prior to joining Cabanillas & Associates, P.C., Lauren was a Senior Associate at the largest consumer bankruptcy firm in the Middle District of Florida, Clark & Washington, P.C. Her memberships include the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys, the Westchester County Bar Association and the Suffolk County Bar Association.

Sawsan Y. Zaky

 

Sawsan Y. Zaky, Esq. is an Of Counsel at Cabanillas & Associates, P.C. She focuses on real estate litigation advocating on behalf of homeowners in foreclosure, as well as bankruptcy and matrimonial law.

In addition to earning an M.B.A. at Pace University’s Lubin School of Business, Ms. Zaky earned a dual B.B.A. in Finance and Public Accounting. In 2008, she earned her Juris Doctorate from New York Law School. Sawsan is admitted to practice law in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. She is also admitted in multiple federal and bankruptcy courts including NY’s Eastern and Southern District Courts as well as the NJ District Court.

Stephen W. Flynn

 

Stephen W. Flynn, Esq. serves as Of Counsel at Cabanillas & Associates, P.C. in the real estate law and criminal defense law departments. Mr. Flynn spent 20 years as a New York City Police Detective before earning his law degree from Pace Law School in 2007. Mr. Flynn uses his experience as an NYPD Detective and attorney to provide a unique skill set and understanding of the law and criminal proceedings for each of his clients.
