Legal Tip of the Month: April

Along with keeping excellent records for yourself and your family, you should also keep high-quality, color copies of all legally issued documents that cannot be easily replaced.

This includes documents like:

  • Passports

  • Visas

  • National ID cards

  • Birth certificates

  • Marriage certificates

If something was to happen to your records such as fire, flood or theft, you would potentially end up in a difficult position while you waited for new documents to come through. This can be an extremely frustrating process. Having high-quality copies can help speed the process along.

That’s why we recommend keeping your high-quality copies in a completely different, secure location from your original documents. An example would be at your parents’ house, or in a locked desk drawer at work.
